Maldonado goes quickest amid crashes and illness

Pastor Maldonado ended an eventful opening day of the second pre-season Formula 1 test in Barcelona quickest for Lotus despite causing multiple red flags. The Venezuelan posted a 1:25.011 - quicker than Lewis Hamilton's 2014 pole position time - to go top, a tenth and a half faster than Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen who had led for much of the morning. Daniel Ricciardo was third fastest but struggled during the opening hours. He had completed just a handful of laps by lunch, but a better afternoon saw him top that up to 58.
