Honda vetoed Alonso's Le Mans drive with Porsche

Fernando Alonso came close to following Nico Hulkenberg to Le Mans, but the plan was vetoed by McLaren's engine partner Honda. The Spaniard was reportedly close to signing a deal with Porsche to drive the third 919, which will also be driven by Force India's Nico Hulkenberg in Spa and Le Mans later this year. McLaren are known to include clauses within their contracts that prohibit their drivers from taking part in any dangerous activities away from Formula 1. However it seems they were open to allowing Alonso to partner with Porsche, but it was engine supplier Honda, who are footing part of Alonso's 2015 salary, that vetoed the deal.
