Rosberg beats Hamilton to Austin pole position

Nico Rosberg will start the United States Grand Prix in pole position after comfortably securing the top spot on Saturday. The German outpaced chief rival and team-mate Lewis Hamilton by almost four-tenths, giving Mercedes a 1-2 and putting himself in prime position to challenge Hamilton's points lead. The Williams duo of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa were third and fourth, albeit almost a second down on Rosberg's pole time. Daniel Ricciardo was the best non-Mercedes powered car in fifth ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. Jenson Button was seventh, but will serve a gearbox penalty and therefore drops out of the top ten.
