F1: McLaren confirms Michael departure

McLaren has confirmed that sporting director Sam Michael will be leaving the team at the end of the season. When contacted by Crash.net, McLaren formally confirmed that Michael is leaving the company having handed in his notice in March. He will attend the remaining races of the 2014 season before returning to his native Australia with his wife and two children. Michael leaves “on extremely good terms” with Ron Dennis and the rest of McLaren, having worked for the team since he joined from Williams in 2011. His move back to Australia signals the end of an F1 career which has also seen him work for Team Lotus and Jordan.
