Bianchi has traumatic brain injury confirm family

Jules Bianchi has suffered a "diffuse axonal injury" - a type of traumatic brain injury - according to his family who released a statement on Tuesday evening in Japan. The 25-year-old remains in a critical but stable condition at Mie General Hospital where he underwent three hours of surgery following his accident on Sunday. His injury is the consequence of rapid deceleration which has an affect on the nerves and brain. The severity of the injury isn't known exactly and has only been described as "severe".
