Japanese GP to start behind the Safety Car
unday afternoon's Japanese Grand Prix will start behind the Safety Car as a result of heavy rainfall. With Typhoon Phanfone – upgraded to 'super-typhoon' status on Saturday – gradually moving closer to the country's coastline, rain had soaked the Suzuka paddock by the time the F1 fraternity arrived on race day. After assessing the conditions, Race Control decided that the Safety Car should lead the field away, with the 15:00 local time (GMT +9) start time retained for the time being.Only two laps are needed behind the Safety Car for a result to be declared – in grid order, at half points.
