Vettel profits from Q2 tyre gamble

Red Bull/Getty Images Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel reckons a tyre gamble in Q2 aided him during the final shootout session during a wet qualifying hour at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium. Vettel narrowly made it through in Q2 after opting to save a set of Intermediate tyres, which he consequently used in Q3 where he set the third fastest time, behind the dominant Mercedes pair of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. "I think it would be nice to be further up but the gap was quite big, [the] best we could do today," he said.
