Why were crowds absent from Hockenheim?

Hockenheim normally packed on race days in the past had empty spaces in the stands this year On the same day as the German Grand Prix, the Nurburgring hosted an event called the Truck Grand Prix and watching the cumbersome trucks from the grandstands were about 100,000 excited spectators – about twice the size of the crowd that gathered at Hockenheim. Bild am Sonntag asked Bernie Ecclestone where all the fans are, to which he retorted, 'Obviously not here.'
