Smedley praises ‘monumental’ Vettel
Rob Smedley says the lap that Sebastian Vettel pulled out in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix was “monumental”. Vettel managed to outqualify both Williams cars – beating Valtteri Bottas by just 0.002s – despite having appeared well off the pace on his first run in Q3. While Smedley admitted that Williams was disappointed not to lock-out the second row he said he was impressed by what Vettel had produced to beat Bottas and Felipe Massa. “We did a really good job preparing for this race,” Smedley said. “We knew that it was going to be a race that would suit us.
