Alonso tops rain-affected Monaco second practice

Fernando Alonso hustled his Ferrari around the damp streets of Monte Carlo on Thursday afternoon to top a second practice of two halves. Alonso shot to the top of the time sheets with a mighty lap of 1:18.482, in what was a frantic final flurry as drivers squabbled for track position on the rapidly drying circuit. Lewis Hamilton ended the afternoon as the Spaniard’s closest challenger, four tenths   shy after a messy first sector on his final quick lap, while Sebastian Vettel rounded out the top three for Red Bull, half a second down on Alonso’s best time.
