Former Ferrari man Nigel Stepney killed in road accident

Former Ferrari mechanic Nigel Stepney, who was memorably involved in the Formula One ‘spy gate’ saga in 2007, has died. Stepney was involved in a traffic accident in the early hours of Friday morning in Kent, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 56-year-old made his first foray into Formula One in 1977 with Shadow, before stints with Lotus – where he engineered Ayrton Senna – and the title winning Benetton team in the mid 90s. In the late 90s and early 00s he was a part of the Ferrari ‘dream team’ that won six  consecutive constructors’ trophies, alongside Michael Schumacher, Jean Todt and Ross Brawn.
