Ecclestone: We got double points rule because Ferrari aren't performing 4 February, 2014 Luca di Montezemolo with Bernie Ecclestone Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo allegedly agreed behind closed doors that the controversial ‘double points' innovation is necessary for Formula 1.
That is the claim of Formula 1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone, despite Montezemolo having declared on record that he is opposed to the universally unpopular idea.
'It's too artificial,' the Ferrari boss said recently. 'I would not be surprised if the rule is soon abolished.'
