Vettel criticises ‘absurd' double points rule

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has hit out at new regulations that mean the final round of the season will carry double weight. Under proposals announced on Monday, the final round of the Formula 1 season will feature double points, meaning that the winner of next year's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will claim 50 points, rather than the customary 25. But Vettel is against such plans, drawing comparisons to the final day of the football season being awarded double points. 'Imagine, on the last Bundesliga match there would suddenly double points,' he told German publication SPORT BILD . 'This is absurd and punishes those who have worked hard for a whole season.
