Alonso satisfied with sixth after difficult qualifying
Fernando Alonso gave himself a fighting chance going into Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix by setting a time good enough for sixth on the grid after a difficult qualifying hour for his Ferrari squad.
Both Alonso and his team-mate Felipe Massa, who failed to make it through to the final part of qualifying and will start 15th, were scrabbling around for grip throughout the morning's practice session and qualifying as they struggled to get their tyres working and up to temperature, and at one point it looked like neither Ferrari would make it through to the top-ten shootout.
