P1: Alonso goes quickest
Fernando Alonso was fastest in opening practice for the U.S. GP in a truncated session at the Circuit of The Americas.Heavy fog and problems with the trackside medical helicopter meant that only about 45 minutes' worth of running was possible.
The weather conditions meant that the session was initially delayed by 40 minutes and cars were then only on track for about 15 minutes before the red flags came out.
The medical helicopter was actually missing from its pad at that stage and the drivers had to ensure another frustrating wait - this time for about half an hour - as a replacement was found.
Little surprise, then, that the track soon became very busy when the pitlane finally re-opened,...
