The rise & fall of the F1 misfit
Davide Valsecchi has the unfortunate distinction as the only GP2 champion, apart from recent champion Fabio Leimer, who has never raced in F1 – you might even include Georgio Pantano, despite dominating GP2 in 2008 who was considered too old and ‘past it’ after his lackluster season with Jordan in 2004.
But with Hulkenberg lining up with Romain Grosjean next year (or Maldonado if you believe the PR), its doubtful room will be made for Davide next year. With Raikkonen seemingly locked in for the final two races, the chance of Valsecchi even subbing (as Jerome d’Ambrosio did in Monza last year) and gaining valuable grand prix experience will also go out the window.
