Hulkenberg springs qualifying surprise with P3

Nico Hulkenberg had claimed a surprise pole position during his debut season in Formula 1 in 2010 in Brazil and three years later the German continues to astonish. Driving for Sauber, far from being as competitive as the front-runners, Hulkenberg qualified third for the Italian Grand Prix on Saturday behind the two Red Bull drivers and ahead of the Ferrari duo. With his future in F1 unsecure, the timing of his performance couldn’t have come at a better time. The 26-year-old did admit, though, that the qualifying result came as a surprise.
