McLaren celebrates 50th anniversary

The McLaren team was born exactly 50 years ago today, when Bruce McLaren Racing Limited formed on September 2, 1963. From a small workshop in New Malden, Surrey, the outfit now operates from its advanced technology centre in Woking, and stands as one of the most successful names in Formula 1 history. Having entered the sport at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix, founder Bruce McLaren took his eponymous squad to its first victory at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit two years later. A total of 12 Constructors' and eight Drivers' crowns have since been notched up, while the overall victory tally now stands at a record-holding 182 from 734 races.
