Alonso fastest in damp first practice

Fernando Alonso led a damp first practice session at the Belgian Grand Prix, setting the fastest time during a brief dry spell with a 1:55.198. The Force Indias of Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil were second and third fastest but the times were more dependent on each driver's commitment through the faster parts of the circuit rather than car performance as several damp patches never fully dried out. Roughly 30 minutes into the session Mark Webber was the first to attempt a lap on dry tyres, bolting on a set of the hard compound Pirellis and tentatively making his way out on circuit.
