Hamilton shocked to start on pole

Lewis Hamilton was shocked when he was informed by his Mercedes team that his final lap in qualifying had been good enough for pole position for Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The Briton had been second fastest in both Q1 and Q2, behind his team-mate Nico Rosberg but stormed to first in Q3 with a time of 1.19.388, to collect the 30th pole position of his career and his fourth for Mercedes. “I was really surprised when the guys told me over the radio that I was on pole today”, explained the 2008 world champion. “It was a good lap but I thought Sebastian had done enough.
