Teams were warned against testing

Formula One teams were warned in 2012 that private in-testing is not allowed under the sport's regulations, a leaked letter has revealed. Mercedes and Pirelli are in trouble with the FIA after it emerged during this weekend's Monaco GP that they conducted a three-day test with a 2013-spec car after the Spanish GP earlier this month. Red Bull and Ferrari both lodged an appeal to the Monte Carlo stewards and the matter will now be put before the International Tribunal.
