Row over three-day Mercedes tyre test
Tension is growing in the paddock ahead of Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix, with it being revealed that the Mercedes team staged a private three-day tyre test at the Circuit de Catalunya after its disappointing race performance earlier this month. The Brackley-based outfit, which has claimed four out of a possible six pole positions so far this year, racked up 1000 kilometres, aiding its quest to understand why strong qualifying performances are undone amid intense tyre degradation on race days. Red Bull and Ferrari have expressed dissatisfaction at the test, questioning whether clarification from governing body the FIA would have been required.
