Rosberg quickest from Alonso in first practice

A resident of Monte Carlo, Nico Rosberg continued to display Mercedes’ strong pace after the German driver set the fastest time in the first practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix on Thursday. Rosberg’s time of 1 minute 16.195 seconds around the street circuit, though, was just about nine-hundredths quicker than Fernando Alonso, who is driving a competitive Ferrari which won the preceding Spanish GP two weeks ago. With 31 laps, Rosberg racked up the most mileage in the 90 minutes suggesting that the team, which squandered the three pole positions it registered in the last three Grands Prix, was focussed on its race pace.
