Vettel quickest in first practice, just ahead of Ferrari

Sebastian Vettel was unsurprisingly the fastest driver in a sunny opening practice session for the Australian Grand Prix on Friday, quicker by nearly three-tenths than the time set last year. The Red Bull driver clocked 1 minute 27. 211 seconds around the Albert Park circuit, seven-hundredths ahead of the Ferrari of Felipe Massa but three-tenths quicker than last season’s chief rival Fernando Alonso, who was third. Grip was hard to find in the early part of the outing but the track got busier in the second half as the track rubbered in.
