Horner extends Red Bull contract

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has extended his contract to remain with the Milton Keynes outfit for "several years" despite interest from Mercedes. The 39-year-old took up the position in 2005 when Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz bought and rebranded the Jaguar team. German newspaper Bild reports that Mercedes, during a board meeting, expressed an interest in hiring Horner to replace the outgoing motorsport boss Norbert Haug. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko confirmed the extension and the rival approach. "Last week Horner extended his contract for several years," confirmed the Austrian, adding: "The Mercedes board were too late."
