Mercedes’ lead designer John Owen set to depart team

The Mercedes F1 team has announced a significant shift in its technical leadership, confirming that veteran designer John Owen will depart the team during the 2026 season. After nearly two decades at the heart of the Brackley-based squad, Owen has decided to step away from the sport to take a sabbatical. Owen’s tenure spans the most dominant era in modern racing history.
